This painting came from one of those places that feels simple when you’re standing there, but stays in your mind afterwards. I loved how peaceful this little harbour felt, and I wanted the water to reflect that. Rather than painting every ripple, I kept it loose and quite abstract, letting the marks and colours create the feeling of the water and the scene as a whole. I’m not trying to create a prison for myself with the paint, but allowing the marks to move freely and capture how the place felt rather than exactly how it looked.
